This is the fifth article in our series about The Wiser Way – a methodology to manage all of the “What ifs” that go along with aging.

Trust is one of the most important principles of The Wiser Way methodology—it could even be argued that it is the most important—but it can also be the hardest to embrace.

First, a short fable…

A Fable: The Trusting Turtle

In a serene pond, a wise turtle called Timothy exemplified the power of trust and vulnerability through his actions. He had a close-knit group of friends and family who shared a special bond.

One day, Timothy encountered a challenging situation that made him question his judgment. He felt uncertain and troubled, unsure of the best course of action. Recognizing the strength of his Trusted Circle, he reached out to them for guidance.

Gathering his friends and family, Timothy humbly shared his doubts and fears. He trusted that their collective wisdom and support would help him find clarity and peace of mind.

With open hearts and attentive ears, his Trusted Circle listened intently. They empathized with his concerns and offered their perspectives, drawing from their own experiences. Each member of the Trusted Circle brought unique insights to the table, enriching the discussion.

Through their collaborative dialogue, Timothy felt a sense of reassurance. He realized that his Trusted Circle had his best interests at heart and genuinely cared for his well-being. Their willingness to openly share their thoughts and support him reaffirmed the strength of their trust.

In the end, Timothy emerged with newfound clarity and confidence, thanks to the collective wisdom and unwavering support of his family and friends. They had demonstrated their trustworthiness through their genuine concern and shared vulnerability.

Moral of the story: Trust is nurtured through shared experiences and support. By embracing vulnerability and seeking guidance from our Trusted Circle, we foster an environment where trust thrives. The strength of our relationships lies in the mutual care and understanding we extend to one another, allowing us to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

Trust – What Does It Mean?

So, let’s talk trust. And I don’t mean just any trust. We’re diving into the deep end—the kind of trust that takes a bit of practice and is reserved for a chosen few in our lives. It’s the trust that becomes our lifeline when we’re facing the challenges that life throws our way.

In The Wiser Way, trust means being open and vulnerable. It means letting our guard down and allowing ourselves to lean on others when we need a helping hand.

For those of us serving as caregivers, it’s crucial to recognize that our family is like a tight-knit team fueled by love. And guess what? It’s totally okay to ask for help! Seriously, don’t let that superhero cape fool you into thinking you have to tackle everything solo. Trust your tribe and know they’ve got your back. Together, you can conquer anything that comes your way.

And if and when you find yourself on the receiving end of care, it’s important to remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness! Nope, in fact it’s a brave move. If you suspect you’re on the wrong end of a scam or perhaps you’re dealing with a health concern, reach out to your family. They’re there to support you, to lend an ear, and to provide that extra boost of strength.

Here’s the bottom line: we’re all in this together.

Trying to face life’s challenges alone is like playing a game of basketball against a fully stacked team – you’re running in circles while they effortlessly score point after point. It’s just not gonna work.
